The General Director for Environmental Protection (GDOŚ) has issued two further decisions – for Włocławek and Ostrołęka – specifying the requirements for the scope of the environmental report for the construction of SMRs. Previously, OSGE received a similar decision for the project in Stawy Monowskie.
The decisions issued by GDOŚ enable OSGE to commence environmental and location studies necessary to prepare the Environmental Impact Assessment Report for both planned sites. The time needed to prepare such a report is estimated at approximately two years.
The GDOŚ indicated the main areas that shall be covered by the report, such as: conducting a natural inventory; the impact of the project on various components of the environment; technological solutions related to cooling systems and a description of the systems, components, and organizational and technical solutions that affect nuclear safety and radiological protection.
The issuance of the GDOŚ’s decisions was preceded by obtaining opinions of the relevant environmental and public health authorities. These include the opinions of the Minister of Climate and Environment, the President of the National Atomic Energy Agency, the President of PGW Wody Polskie, as well as the relevant regional sanitary inspectors.
OSGE currently has three decisions specifying the scope of the environmental report for the construction of SMRs using the BWRX-300 technology designed by GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy. These include projects planned in Ostrołęka, Stawy Monowskie and Włocławek. A decision in principle has also been issued by the Ministry of Climate and Environment for each of these locations.
