ORLEN Synthos Green Energy applies to the National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA) for the general opinion regarding the GEH BWRX-300
08/07/2022, 15:16ORLEN Synthos Green Energy submitted today an application to the President of the PAA. General opinion is aimed at determining whether the planned organisational and technical solutions comply with the requirements of nuclear safety and radiological protection under the provisions of the law.
The technical documentation that OSGE submitted to the PAA is based on documentation prepared by the technology supplier – GE Hitachi – for the Canadian regulator CNSC under a process known as VDR (Vendor Design Review), a pre-license technology review. The licensing process is being conducted in Canada due to the fact that the world’s first BWRX-300 reactor is currently being built there – on the site of the existing Darlington nuclear power plant. The investor – Ontario Power Generation – is an experienced nuclear power plant operator. Recently, SaskPower, another Canadian utility, has also announced that the company has selected BWRX-300.
The PAA will analyse whether the submitted documentation complies with the requirements of nuclear safety and radiological protection under Polish law. The PAA President’s general opinion is issued on the basis of Article 39b of the Atomic Law and may concern any aspect of a nuclear facility related to nuclear safety and radiological protection of a nuclear facility. The president of the PAA will issue a general opinion within six months. In particular cases this may be extended by another three months.
