OSGE TO PARTNER NET ZERO NUCLEAR
05/12/2023, 14:35At the COP28 Climate Change Conference in Dubai, industry representatives from around the world signed a pledge to support the development of nuclear energy. OSGE is among the signatories of this declaration.
This pledge is part of the Net Zero Nuclear initiative, advocating for active collaboration between governments and leaders in the nuclear energy sector to triple the global nuclear power capacity, with the ultimate goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. OSGE not only signed the declaration but is also a key sponsor of the Net Zero Nuclear summit held as part of the COP28.
Among nearly 100 corporations from around the world that have signed the declaration are OSGE, represented by its CEO Rafał Kasprów and Synthos represented by Michał Sołowow, the owner of Poland’s largest industrial group, of which both Synthos and OSGE are part.
“Net Zero Nuclear unites companies – global industry leaders from various sectors who share a common understanding: achieving an energy transformation is impossible without nuclear energy. What we need is putting a stop to climate change on Earth while ensuring ongoing sustainable global economic growth. That’s why we’re very pleased that OSGE is among the pioneers of this initiative”, said Rafał Kasprów, CEO of OSGE.
The initiators of Net Zero Nuclear are the World Nuclear Association (WNA) – the world’s largest nuclear industry association, and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) – a company from the United Arab Emirates, owner of the first nuclear power plant in the Arab world located in Barakah. The project is also backed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The initiative aims to channel participants’ efforts into the rapid global expansion of the reactor fleet and accelerate research and development in the field of new nuclear technologies.
The Net Zero Nuclear Industry Pledge, with OSGE as a signatory, is closely linked to the Ministerial Declaration signed by over 20 countries, including Poland, on Saturday, December 2. The signatory nations pledged to triple nuclear power generation capacity by 2050, promote nuclear energy as a clean source, and facilitate the financing of nuclear projects. The document was signed during COP28 by President of Poland Andrzej Duda, who emphasized the country’s efforts and the successes of Polish companies in the implementations of nuclear energy, including the actions of OSGE.
“Polish company – ORLEN Synthos Green Energy, which intends to use the SMR technology, participates in COP28. It is developing this project together with US and Canadian entities. I am glad that it is now launching co–operation also with Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation – a firm from the United Arab Emirates! The United Arab Emirates, the host of this Climate Summit, has just completed the construction of their first, big nuclear power plant. This is the best demonstration of the fact that nuclear energy has a future all over the world!” – Andrzej Duda said in his speech.
The initiative is open to all interested parties. Among the supporting companies are GE-Hitachi, CNNC, Ontario Power Generation, Westinghouse, TerraPower, KEPCO, Cameco, Urenco, Nippon Steel, and others.
