Three enviromnental proceedings in progress
01/09/2023, 12:22Stawy Monowskie, Włocławek and Ostrołęka – three proceedings for issuing environmental decisions for the BWRX-300 construction projects are already underway. The first cross-border consultations have also been initiated.
In a decision dated September 1, the General Director of Environmental Protection began proceedings to issue an environmental decision for the construction of BWRX-300 in Ostrołęka. Earlier, on August 21, proceedings began for a project in Włocławek, and on June 15 for Stawy Monowskie.
“We are not slowing down! The application to the General Directorate of Environmental Protection to initiate proceedings on environmental conditions for the Ostrołęka project is already the third application for the BWRX-300 construction project. We have completed another important stage of work aimed at providing Poland with stable, emission-free energy from SMRs,” says Dawid Jackiewicz, Vice President of the Management Board, OSGE.
In each of these cases, along with the application for an environmental decision, the company asked the GDOŚ to determine the scope of the project’s environmental impact report. An element of each application is the Environmental Scoping Report (KIP) – the materials were prepared by the OSGE team.
For the first submitted application for the Stawy Monowskie, the GDOŚ has launched cross-border consultations. These are the first cross-border consultations in Europe for the construction of a small modular reactor (SMR). In its resolution on the BWRX-300 reactor project, in accordance with the Espoo Convention, GDOŚ found it grounded to consult with the Czech Republic and Slovakia – the closest countries. Austria will still join the consultations at its request.
“We would like to thank the GDOŚ for its professional and efficient handling of our application. We fully support the decision to initiate cross-border proceedings with Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Austria. In order to meet the construction schedules, it is necessary to cooperate efficiently with the state administration, the fact that this is possible is well demonstrated by our cooperation with GDOŚ” says Rafał Kasprów, CEO of OSGE.
